A little back story - Cole loves to watch dirt bike races. We will pull up tricks and races on Youtube for him to watch. He always says he wants to do that, and my standard response is "sure! - right after my funeral" I never thought he understood what that meant. Until Tuesday....
Cole - Daddy, where's mommy?
Keith - At a meeting
Cole - Will she be back?
Keith (kidding) - Um, I don't think so
Cole slurps on his milkshake - fun dad, huh? - and is quiet for a few seconds...
Cole - I'm going to get a dirt bike now that I don't have a mommy!
In his seconds of pure grief, I hope he wasn't also picking out the bike color... life goes on.
Welcome to glimpses of our life. Here are our funny times and ordinary day times. This is the story of my little boys growing up. It's the story of our family.

Dad's Chance
We got a call from the soccer coach and she can't make practice. Coach Jennifer wanted to know if your dad would run the show. I immediately answered for him - YES. I don't know if he secretly loved it or not, but I know that Cole had a fun time.
Cole also has been saying some crazy things to show off his memory of steel. We were looking at a farm book and it had a picture of a barn full of cows hooked up to mechanical milkers. I explained to Cole that they are machines to milk all of the cows at the same time. He said, "No, sometimes you can use your hands like this.... remember like Cara and I did on the fake cow at the fair." I was SHOCKED that he remembered that. In fact it took me a second to remember what he was talking about. But sure enough, he was right.
When Keith was getting him ready for soccer, he said "Dad remember when you were little playing soccer and your hurt your hip?" Now, this happened before Keith and I even met, and the story was only told to him once when Grandpa Greg came to visit. Cole continued, "you hurt your hip, your illa cress." Completely true, Dad had an injury to his lilac crest.
This past game, you were the MVP for the other team! You scored their only 2 goals and took out Ryan 6 times as he had a shot on goal. It's all about fun, and you had a blast. Way to go baby, TWO GOALS!!!

Cuttin' Up
Growing up - for the longest time - my mother cut my meat. I think she secretly liked it. She would be in the kitchen fixing the plates and really cut meat before it even hit the table. Mom really never gave us a chance, but that's besides the point. She had a running joke, and like all her jokes, she repeated it often. She would say, "I'm going to have to go on all her dates to cut her meat." Hardy, har, har.
So yesterday I am getting dinner ready and Cole says, "Mom, I want you to show me how to cut." I am thinking that he's so far ahead of the game! I agree and start to get a knife and fork out. Then he tells me "no, with scissors and paper". Oh. I guess one step at a time.
I drew a straight line, curvy line, and zig zag on a sheet of paper, and he cut them all perfectly! And then shredded the paper into a million little pieces. Fun.

Too Much TV
In an attempt to embarrass myself and to take an account of craziness. Here are the shows set to record on my DVR..... sigh......
Grey's Anatomy, Amazing Race, Survivor, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Showdog Moms and Dads, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, The Biggest Loser, Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, Rock of Love, Scott Baio 46 and pregnant, Man vs Wild, Dirty Jobs, Lobster Wars, Tuna Wranglers, Deadliest Catch, America's Funniest Home Videos, The Big Give, Here Come The Newlyweds, So You Think You Can Dance, Kathy Griffin Life on the D List, The Bachelor, Judge Judy, Oprah, Veggie Tales, Transformers cartoon, Prison Break, 24, Desperate Housewives, and Extreme Home Makeover, Celebrity Apprentice, Moment of Truth
Just removed: Everybody Loves Raymond reruns (I've concluded I've seen every show)
Had to quit: The Young and the Restless
Soon to add: The Mole (YES! it's coming back!)
I wish I could say that I don't watch ALL of them... but I do. They are not all on right now, good thing they come in seasons. Wow - I'm not quite sure what to think of that list. National TV turnoff week is coming up. I should give my DVR a break. It apparently is using more memory space than I am ;-(

Walk in the Park
Mondays are always so stressful. I usually put off doing the MOPS newsletter till last minute (that's my fault). Cole has school, Brad has music class, pick Cole up from school, lunchtime, naps, cook dinner before Cole's music class, rush back home to eat, hurry to print and staple the newsletters, then MOPS at the base Chapel. Tonight we're adding soccer practice into the mix. Keith and I will have to swap kids and cars in order for everyone to be where they need to be at the right time. Whew... When did life get to be so busy? How did so much get to be on our plates? I'm sure one day years from now - these Mondays will seem like a walk in the park.

Just Laxin'
Ahh - such a beautiful weekend. I think after months of being cooped inside, searching for warmth, doing everything to avoid outdoors you REALLY appreciate nice weather. This weekend was NICE. The entire town was outside. Weird after months of driving in the neighborhoods where you never saw a person outside. Garage doors were always closed. We've crawled out of the wood works. In the misunderstood interpretation of wording by Cole - we just "laxed" all weekend.
It was in the upper 60's on Saturday. We spent all day outside. I forgot to put sunscreen on Brad (my sensitive skinned baby) and he got a little pink. We had a soccer game, then came home to jump on the bounce house. Keith and Cole went 4-wheeling with The Thomas', and while Brad napped I got to read for 3 hours outside! When does that happen?! Today was a walk to the park and quick fishing trip at Legacy Park. The whistle pigs are out - can I just say that I love them. Prairie Dogs are my favorite animal - whistle pigs are teacup versions. So cute. Keith thinks they are vermin that tear up the land. I take it personally. I could watch them all day. Good thing Mountain Home is FULL of whistle pigs.
On a side note: We are so blessed by the Thomas' (is it Thomas' or Thomases... whatever) Cole had a soccer game yesterday and Steve showed up to cheer him on at 10am. They came to his first game, but I thought that it was just because it was the "first" game. He cheered you and the whole team on. I was just really touched by that. They really love these boys. Good friends. They will be great parents one day. I hope we are around to meet their babies!!

The Begining of Your Future
Like it or not, these boys were breed to play soccer. They will have to try it and learn to love it. I guess when they are old enough to write a 50 page dissertation explaining WHY they do not like soccer, we will think about letting them find a new sport. We tease... .kinda.
So, as soon as Cole reached the magical age of 4 and the following season rolled around - he was registered on his first league. You know this kid has had several individual private practices, so this is his first team experience. Sadly, Daddy isn't the coach. I tried and tried to talk him into it. I don't think he has the patience for this age. He would much rather explain offense and defense to someone who can grasp the concept of staying within the painted lines call the field.
Cole is more excited to be silly with friends than to actually play. Ball time and starting are the furthest things from his head. He is having fun and that's all that really matters. At this stage everyone plays at the same time, the coaches are allowed on the field, and nobody keeps score.... except for your dad! On a side note, we are a little sad with our jersey color and sponsor. We're maroon representing Ashley Manor. Keith is ready to trade to the blue team from Dave's Guns. On a positive note, your #5.. just like your Uncle Garrett, but you play a little dirty just like Uncle Wes.
The game started and everyone takes off. The swarm of bees stayed right on top of the ball. Everyone was so precious. I did find some of your dad's commentary funny. Funnier was the mom yelling "man on"! They are all within 8 inches of each other... when does the "man on" phrase become valid? Cole had so much fun! It's all he's been talking about. You want to wear your jersey to practices and can't wait for the next game. "Tell me when it's Saturday again!" I promise, I will tell you when it's Saturday.

Randomness
One of Brad's first words was "me". He would say "me me me me me me" over and over when ever he wanted something. Hence the nickname "me me"
Brad's a little obsessed with shoes. If there is a pair in the floor, he will try to put them on. Anybodys! He has no patience and will scream bloody murder if it doesn't go on easily (usually not) It's so much easier to keep shoes hidden away from you.
Brad loves Diego - he yells "D I E G O" when he hears the theme song.
Cole always says Aunt Kimi is stinky. I don't know where he got it, but he says it all the time. "Do you want to talk to Aunt Kimi on the phone?" "No, she's stinky".. But we're not allowed to laugh at her, it's not nice!?
Cole colored Cara a picture yesterday. He named it "The Moneymaker" - where does he get this?
Ask Brad what a rooster says "toodle doodle loo" - funny kid.
