Welcome to glimpses of our life. Here are our funny times and ordinary day times. This is the story of my little boys growing up. It's the story of our family.

Things I love
Brad crawled into Aunt Kimi's lap and the following will forever be recorded on my heart:
Brad - I love you Aunt Kimi
Kimi - I love you Brad
Brad - I love you because you don't bother me.
I might have heard my Aunt Be say this on Christmas morning:
"I can't play with my ipad because I'm too drunk" - at 9:30am.
I am trying to clean the house and toyroom out and I feel a great rearranging coming on soon. Poor Keith. I think he'll be running back to work before January 4th!

Not That Bad!
We go back in a couple weeks for a treatment plan. Not a bad day at all!

Tomorrow
Then I just remind myself, he is the same kid as yesterday and the day before. I love him just as much today no matter what they say. God is the same God with the same plans He's knitted for Brad before he was even formed.
So, tomorrow shouldn't be a sad day. This is just part of the roller coaster of life... I'm heading up the long slow steep hill. Click, Click, Click, Click, Click. Nervous about falling. Anticipating terrifying results. Click, Click, Click, Click. Approaching the top. Click. Click..... Click. Fall. Wait a second, that wasn't so bad! It was almost fun. In fact, I would do it all over again.
Brad, thanks for making life fun. I love you and Colby Lee to God's house and back.

Empathy
My neck and shoulders are killing me from being all hunched over at the sewing machine. It's really painful. Now I have sympathy AND empathy for sweat shop workers. Almost the exact same circumstances, huh?
If I were in a beauty pageant, I would wish for world peace and daily neck massages for those who sew all day long and such as.

Testing, Testing
Well, today was Brad's evaluation. It was a 3 hour long test. She was looking not just at Aspergers, but the Dr. told me this was a wide angle test to cover just about everything.
First of all - we had to fill out these huge information packets. His teachers were given two to complete. They did. I read their answers. I'm going to vent here and then let it pass. I've been told (by his teacher) that he's just a strong willed child that is just playing me. Their answers tell a different story. Surprising to me when I ask and "everything's fine". The end.
The meeting starts with the Dr. and open free play in a toy room. She asks him questions to which he pretended like he didn't hear her. She plays with him and makes comments to which he pretended like he didn't hear her. He's in his own world. Quickly moving on to object to object.
We move to another testing room. Boring white room with no distractions. Three chairs and a table. A two way mirror/window right next to the table. Another assistant comes in to complete the test. She gives Brad a computer "game" to play and then walks out of the room. He quits the game after 20 seconds. He randomly pushes the buttons, pushes other buttons, and turns in the chair. The 5 minute game is over and we move on to several other tests. Listening, matching, writing, rhyming, spelling, counting, building....
Brad checked out 10 minutes into the test. He would just randomly answers some things and just repeat what she said the other half of the test. At one point I was hiding my face from laughing. Brad decided just to repeat everything she said and wouldn't answer her. He threw is finger at answers when I KNOW he knew what was being asked of him.
There were several questions not at his age level, so I'm guessing it was to see where he was on intelligence. Because he could not, choose not to focus, I know he missed 90% of the questions asked of him. He would randomly answer hard questions correctly, but would say "I don't know" "It's too hard" "I'm tired" when he was asked to count to SIX! Please, the child counted to 31 when he was 2!
I have no idea what they are going to conclude from this evaluation. My gut feeling is for sure ADD. At home he plays for hours and watches long movies, he plays outside and with his brother all day long, but watching him trying to complete a small task was painful. My heart hurt for him.
So that was a long couple of hours. We go back in a couple weeks for the results of the evaluation.
Signing off to bathe the children....

10,000 Cole's
He's also sweet. He's so great with Brad. He has a friend that calls all the time for a playdate. Cole has never even asked for anyone to come over to play (or to go to someone else's house). He is perfectly content playing with his best friend Brad. They play from the moment they wake up to the minute they fall asleep. He watches out for his little brother and shares all his toys.
If something goes wrong, I know Cole will be the easy kid to change his plans/toy/direction. He just goes with the flow. I find him terribly quick witted
I adore my Colby. If I could have 10,000 of him, I would. He's that much fun.

Getting Somewhere!
I had zero expectations about our meeting today. I turned in the in depth information packet and talked some more about Brad's good days and his bad days. Her recommendation:
He displays Aspergers tendencies and she wants to have him fully evaluated. I feel relief. Odd. I was expecting to cry or for her to tell me I was crazy. The sense of guilt was lifted because today has been a good day. A hidden answer for "bad days" could be in sight. A reason other than bad parenting of a strong willed child could be the root of all this....
I'm relieved. I am hopeful for answers. I am ready for whatever challenges or battles I need to fight for/with my baby. I do reserve the right to my cry moments, just not today.

Wishy Washy
Cole's school did a reading for ice cream program with Braums. (Ashley, it's the store with the big sno-cone looking signs) For every 6 books you read you get a free treat working up to 6 free treats. This program started at the beginning of school and this week I just turned in the last papers for it. Meaning: we've read 36 books together since school's started. That's not that great, and I was terribly embarrassed it took this long! That's not even a book every two days! Guess what....
He was the first one finished in the entire school and won a special prize! His name was announced over the loud speaker and everything.
I'm really proud of Cole, but seriously..... what are these parents doing? I'm HORRIBLE at reading everyday to them and we still won? Our country is in trouble, but great job baby!
Also, random thought worth recording in this little baby book.... Cole seems to think if he holds his pee, his balls will get bigger. ((SIGH)) Honestly, where does he get this stuff? We're going to have to have an Anatomy lesson full of bladder location, what's really inside the scrotum (pop question Aunt Kimi), and possible consequences to holding your urine for so long.
And, Cole's new favorite thing is to buy lunch at school. They have it set up more of a cafeteria style where he can pick and choose what he wants. He stole a $1 out of his own birthday money to buy an orange. Then I gave him $2 yesterday and he bought: chicken nuggest, a cookie, ice cream, chocolate milk, and kiwi cut up like an orange "so yummy" Who is that kid?
Random Brad story: He's taken a liking to wearing tinted swim goggles to school. He wears them all day long and God Bless his teachers for letting Brad be Brad. So when I picked him up from school the first day he asked me loudly "Do I look like a small black boy?" WHAT? No Brad, you look like Brad, quit saying that. He then asks again "Do I look like a small black boy? Everyone looks black today and I want to look black too" Oh my, Brad. No, you are not a small black boy, people just look that way because of the tinting on the goggles. He asks "will you just call me small black boy?" Nope, can't do that either baby.
Same said glasses gave him a little case of pink eye, but I can't keep them off his head. Worth mentioning: His teacher told me that Brad just plays me and I'm the problem. She said I should give him a choice and if he doesn't pick one, then I choose and take him to school. Then she added if the fit continued at school, she would just call me and send him home. He'll learn that if he wants to go to school he will make up his mind. WHAT? Is that your way of fixing the problem and helping us? Ugh... she's not my favorite. Besides, he doesn't even like going to your class! I'm having to dress him up in semi-disguises to get him to walk through your door! News Flash: He would love to stay home!
I got the forms to fill out for his ASD/Behavior testing. They are so in depth. I think it's taken about an hour to complete. We go Dec 2nd. I'm nervous. I bought two new books to read and it's a lot to "chew" on. I'm done talking/thinking about all that for a bit.
Oh... I got all my Scentsy stuff in! Yummy. In true Chamness fashion, I might have went a tad overboard, but my house smells great.
Also, our little business is booming! Oh, did I mention that we started a side business? I think so. We've done several homes in the area and are in the black! We're thinking of just rolling all the profits into an IRA so it's not taxed instead of drawing a paycheck. I really should have paid better attention in school. Do you hear that kids?! One day you really might need to know all that! Until then, anyone know of a good tax accountant/bookkeeper?
Another long story short: I am driving around a disel truck. It's huge and I kinda feel like a Pioneer Woman climbing up in that thing and driving down the road. I'm big and tough so WATCH OUT! It makes me want to put boots on and haul some hay around. Until... I went to the grocery store today and I had to put all the groceries in the back. That sucks. I miss my mini van. I should have Mike Victor back tonight!
I better put all the groceries up before I head back up to get Brad.

YEA ME... I mean US!
The entire school had a fundraiser of selling cookie dough. The class that sold the most receives a $50 gift card to buy items for the classroom. Guess who's class won?! Ms. Hitt's!!! Yea!!
The school also collects box tops for education. They had a big push in October with the class who turns in the most receiving a ice cream party. Guess who's class won?! Ms. Hitt's!! Yea!!
I know i really only had 1/22nd to do with the winnings for the class, but as room mother... WE WON! I love winning. I mean it's great for the kids and all..

Thank You Mr. Bagger at the Commissary Man
We had to recycle while we lived on base. There was a prison on base and the prisoners would have to separate it all and pick up our trash. Hey, there's always a catch for free lead based paint filled houses with all the 66* air conditioning you can stand. Prisoners were worth it. Then we moved to Idaho, and I kept up with the recycling kick much to Keith's dismay. Sometimes I asked him to take it to base and do it for me. I'm almost positive he dumped it all in the dumpster.
Next pit stop was Korea. They took recycling to the extreme. Did I mention this before? They even recycled food scraps. Along comes Wichita Falls.
For the love... do you know how difficult it is to recycle in this town? I only knew of this little spot on base that would take plastic/newspapers/ and aluminum cans. The city will pick up only organics at our curb (newspapers/cardboard/grass clippings). To recycle tin cans and glass you had to take them to the city drop off out by Wal-Marts.
Honestly - it was a pain in the REAR. I even admit that I started throwing some of it in the trash because there was so much effort involved.
Today I met Mr. Bagger at the Commissary Man. He told me of the recycling mecca on base. "Have you been to the spot out by the Heritage Center by the Missile Gate?" Why no I haven't. I'll check it out. MECCA! This is by far the nicest and more organized recycling center I've ever seen. A one stop drop off for ALL - tin, aluminum, plastic, cardboard, colored paper... ahhhh...
Life just became easier again. So, if you don't recycle, you totally should. Just for one week look at how much plastic alone you throw away.
Now, I'm off to finish my day of car shuttling. Next topic: "What DO you actually DO during the day"

Indiana Jones
Cole's request. If you're ever throwing a party, the first thing you do is google it. It's that simple. Because you know those who go WAY overboard and outdo everyone else are just as inclined to write whole articles about it.
So I read a few ideas for throwing an Indiana Jones party. I've narrowed down the list of games we could play and decided what was just too much time/money/effort/beyond the limits of sane.
We made invites by crumbling paper and soaking them in tea, baking them and burning the edges to look like a scroll. I've ordered a little swimming pool to do a treasure dig to find a clue. I'm making a beam for the kids to run across while being shot at by poisonous darts (q-tips through straws) for their next clue. I'm even tempted to make an obstacle course for clue three.
So the clues will lead them to their prize - an Indiana Jones activity book. Now, this is where I've decided I've gone a tad overboard. I want to make a paper mache rock to encase the book. The kids will have to tear into the rock to get their prize. Fun? Ah, it might be... if I can ever figure out how to get it in the dang rock! Attempt #1 failed. Back to the drawing boards.
ps. I've officially wrote an entire article about a birthday party. I'm joining the ranks!

Good Deed Day
Do you pick up a quarter? A dollar? Do you save a twenty? Anything over $50 do you call the cops? Where's your line?
Go figure, but Keith and I didn't see eye to eye. I thought anything over $20 you should turn in. Keith thinks that if it's unmarked with NO way of identifying it, finders keepers.
Today was a parenting test. Cole found $4 in the hallway at school. He told me he as he pulled it out of his backpack ready to buy something at the bookfair. I told him that someone lost that money. It could have been their lunch money, money they earned for a special book at the bookfair, or change their parents will be upset if they lost. We went to the office and turned it in. Here's where I'm wondering if it was the right thing to do..... The secretaries were so proud of him. They made a big deal of the good dead and said they will make a special announcement over the whole school tomorrow morning. He was so embarrassed!
I'll have to see how it goes tomorrow. I hope he understands what it means to do the right thing. And money is never ours till we've earned it. For a prize I bought him the dang $10 book he wanted at the Fair. Ugh... now I'm gonna have to read Bionicles. Why do they keep picking things that I have ZERO interest in?
Once a Tiatan, Always a Tiatan
We practiced everyday for hours. Then we had meets on Saturdays. I loved it. I quit after a couple of years. I couldn't get over my fear of doing backhand springs on the balance beam. I did them, then fell on my head, and decided, I didn't like to do them anymore.
Brad is taking gymnastics. It's just a little class to keep him active and feeling accomplished. I don't expect him to stay in it for life. Half the time he doesn't want to go anyway.
As I sit and watch Brad, the "team" practices all over the gym. I watch the coaches spot them, and I can instantly feel the hand on my lower back, the sense of them there for they gymnast even tough they weren't really needed. I watch these girls and see the equipment. I miss it all. But, I do have some realizations to discuss.
They wear leotards with these little hot pants over them. GENIUS. Why in the world did we have to wear "trunks" with them hanging all out anyway? AND we use to wear this stupid band over our tummies to remind us to "suck in" - not these girls. The elastic bands are gone, and nasty trunks are gone. Perfect!
I might as well be paying team prices. $50 a month for Brad to run around. Listen, when I was little we had a class with one teacher. Brad only has 4 little kids in his class, but there are 8 different classes going on at once. They have all these stations set up with 2 instructors a station. Then the kids rotate to the next event. It's mass chaos. I'm paying for all these high school kids to play with Brad on the equipment. What if I did have a child who's serious about this.... oh... that's right - PRIVATE LESSONS ($$$$$)
THEN, Cole wanted to have his birthday party there. I went to sign him up and they promptly asked me for $175! WHAT?! For an hour and 1/2 they wanted that much money. I think I'll pass. Please stay tuned for the deep end I dove off for the Indiana Jones Party!!

Your 8 questions are:
1) What has been the most surprising aspect of motherhood in your experience? If you're not a mom, what is it like to go to the bathroom in privacy?
I am still in shock with the amount of ... you know... urine. I promise I'm done saying it for now. The dirty job detail is a lot to take in. Were you expecting a sweet and heartfelt answer? Not today.
2) How often do you shave your legs in the winter?
I use to say daily, but since daily showers aren't always in the schedule of events... I shave them every time I shower. I can't sleep with prickly leg hairs.
3) What's your favorite thing to do online? If shopping, what site?
I read many many blogs. One time I listed how many tv shows I watch. I think you would be FLOORED with how many sites I visit daily. Now that I'm back to the land of excess, shopping online has slowed down drastically. My favorite was Amazon. They shipped to APO's in RECORD time!! Loved that.
4) If you already possessed the necessary education and experience level, what would you choose for your dream job?
Oh... I always wanted to be a back up dancer. Seeing how I would have to travel quite often and be away from my family, I will go with my #2 answer of Labor and Delivery Nurse.
5) Share a "last-minute" dinner recipe. No pancake balls, please.
Spaghetti, or I make "Cole's favorite" It's turkey sausage links cut and pan fried in garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce. Then mix it with a box of shells and cheese. Sometimes I throw in 1/2 cup pureed cauliflower Sorry, it's not Derek friendly... it's probably not friendly at all for any of us. And yes, I had to take the bottle out of the fridge to spell Worcestershire.
6) Do you speed or drive the speed limit?
One time in my life I got two speeding tickets in one day. Another time I was clocked 26 miles OVER the speed limit. Now I only go as fast as the law will allow. That's the rule in Mike Victor. I haven't had a speeding ticket in 10 years, I think.
7) If you could live anywhere, where would you choose?
With my stinky, smelly boys. That's the only kind of attitude to have in the Air Force. To pretend to have a choice in the matter is like catching stars - never gonna happen.
8) What kind of new vacuum should I buy?
ohh... I want to corrupt you to the Dyson! However, I miss my Hoover Windtunnel most of all. In 3 years I'm on my second Dyson. It's a good vacuum, but there's still things I wish I could change about it. If you buy one, get it from Bed Bath & Beyond with a coupon. They have such a great return/exchange policy. It's the only way to go with them!
Urination
Let's see...
Friday Brad needed help in the bathroom. I walked in and immediately wanted to run away. Far far away, Forrest. There was a turd on the floor. There was smeared poop on the lid. Brad was covered in smeared poop, and the toilet was FULL of toilet paper.
I've laid down the law - no more pull ups in this house. I refuse to buy them anymore. I've always hated them, nothing more than expensive diapers, but I thought they served a purpose. In turn to this brilliant plan, the boys pee the bed an average of 3 times a week - each.... that's lots of sheet cleaning.
Last night I changed the liter box. I scoop it daily, but I thought I should give it a good cleaning. As I went to pick up the box, it was "glued" to the floor. Yes, it was crystallized to the tile with cat urine she peed outside the box! Do you know how much elbow grease it takes to get the crystallized urine off the floor? I pray you never have to know.
Did I mention I live in a house with 3 boys? Have you had to clean the bathroom floors of boys? 'Nough said.
My dogs pee and poop in my floor an average of 3 times a week. This morning at 6:00am, Brad was crying because he stepped in dog pee. As I'm scrubbing it up, Cole wakes up because he's peed in the bed.
I promise my house is clean. Please come over to visit. Please tell me that one day I'll be done cleaning up the waste of others. I just talked myself OUT of nursing school. And possibly more children.

Poor Me and my iPad
However, I don't think I like it. I use to keep all my favorite blogs and sites bookmarked on my little netbook. I could check them with the greatest of ease. Now, I forget them. I think there's a way to bookmark, but it's beyond my computer knowledge.
AND when I go to leave a comment on, let's say, Erin's blog, I have to sign in twice. Problem since I don't like the keyboardish thing.
I can't bear to part with it, yet we don't always get along. If you ask my husband, that's a match made in Heaven.

We were going to the Mattresses
So, we owned
2 King sized beds
1 queen sized bed
1 full sized bed
Don't ask, they multiplied in the move. Here I go approaching Keith to purchase not one, but TWO more beds for our home. He searched on Craigslist and found a listing he couldn't pass up. This family was selling an entire room to include:
bunk bed system with desk
shelving system with plastic bins
large floor rug
decorative pillow
curtains
sheets
including two twin sized mattresses
It wasn't a bad deal and he went to check it out. The thought of used mattresses creeped me out a bit, but he said he looked them over and they "looked good" as they were only a year old. We arrange pick up and the first time I saw them I gagged a little in my mouth. I knew immediately they would not be entering my house, but how do I tell Keith in my sweet, sweet, loving, demeanor? I think my face might have said it all, because The Fight of 2010 started right then and there.
I don't think I ever remember seeing Keith as mad as he was (actually I do, but that includes a night at the Gigglin Grizzly in downtown Denver - another time) Furious, Angry, Steaming. Please keep in mind this was right after we moved in and money just flows out of our hands like water. It's a fact of life, moving is expensive. Nothing ever fits the same. Once you bring all your old junk in your new place, you must purchase MORE junk to arrange your old junk differently. Military peeps know what I'm talking bout'
I digress. He just PAID for the set to include the mattresses, and here I am telling him we're going to be buying two NEW mattresses. These things were disgusting. One of them was left in the seller's garage uncovered. It was brown and dusty. He tried to prove to me a little clean up was all it needed by steam cleaning it in my livingroom floor. I swear as I was telling him "no way" a SPIDER crawled out of it! I kid you not! This was the "cleaner" of the two. The second one had a HUGE yellow pee stain on it!
Now, there's lots of times I'm thankful for my father in law, but he earned high rankings when he arrived and helped me talk Keith into getting rid of them. Not only getting it out of my livingroom immediately, but throwing them in the truck and taking them out of town. He was superman that day and saved a family from breaking up... over mattresses.
We set their room up. I threw out the rug, sheets, pillow, and um... mattresses. We basically have the bunk beds. I painted a bookshelf and dresser to finish the room followed by new mattre$ses, new $heets, new mattre$s protectors, and new pillow$. We painted a mural and arranged the rooms. Then I decided we should switch the boys bedroom with the toyroom and we had to move it all over again.
Wow - recalling this story, I'm slightly amazed at Keith's patience with me!
The boys loved their room for about 2 months. Cole just told me he wants his own bedroom. Figures.

Owner, Operator, Chief in Charge
Long story short, there is a need for solar screens in Wichita Falls. There was only one dude in town who sold them, and now there's two. Him, and me (a dudette)
According to the newspaper, I am listed as the DBA of Texoma Sunscreens. You can read all about our business here: http://www.texomasunscreens.com/
Yea, I built that site by myself.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! If you have a need for sunscreens, I'm your lady. I run a tight ship around here and make a great boss - just ask my husband and kids... if you can find them under the laundry, dishes, and cat hair.
OH - I also would like to announce my more exciting job. I have been selected to be the room mother for Cole's 1st grade class! It might sound so corny, but this thrills me to no end! I'M IN! The president of the PTA and the Volunteer Coordinator both have sons in Cole's class. I thought for sure they would grant the task for themselves, but no, I passed the criminal background check and have been awarded the duty. Now I'm having second thoughts that it might not be that great of a gig if they didn't want it. What did I get myself into?
I'm in charge of parties and the like... I think. I have a meeting on Monday night where I am to bring questions and ideas. I think I've got to go google that ____. The fun starts and ends with me kids! (Just kidding Ms Hitt!) Cole is excited. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a clue as to what that means (just like me), but I hope I don't let him down!

I wear my sunglasses at night
Brad's nodding along and it dons on me to ask the simplest of all the questions, "Brad, where are your private parts?"
He then tells me "Right here (pointing to his front), and right here (pointing to his behind), and my laser eyes right here (pointing to his eyes)"
Yes son, laser eyes.
INCREDIBLY gifted
Mr. Whaley and Mr. Hood,
Hello! My name is Jennifer McDaniel and I have a son playing for GWFSA. We just moved to the area and I have a question about the rules and regulations of this league. It concerns "playing up" on an older team level and the issues surrounding it. My son is currently playing in his age bracket and we will continue to do so for the remainder of this season. I'm wondering what we need to do for him to move up for next spring? He already is developmentally ready. Do we need a coach recommendation or skills placement test?
Any and all helpful information would be appreciated! Thank you for your time,
Jennifer McDaniel
469=583-7837
Jennifer,
Playing up one year, age-wise, is typically an "event-free" process for you.
For the Spring season, you will need to register your son at the new player/transfer registration dates. They will be held around the last two Saturdays of January, at the GWFSA Main Building.
You will be able to request up to 3 possible teams for your son, but there will not be any team placement guarantees.
Any other questions, let us know.
Thanks,
Mark Hood
Thank you for the quick response. I do have a follow up question. How many years/levels can one move up? Is there only a one year move up allowance? I just want to make sure we have all the information needed before we make a decision for the spring registration. We are looking forward to a great season! Thanks again,
Jennifer McDaniel
Jennifer,
Unless a child is an incredibly gifted national-level player, one year up is plenty.
On the boys side especially, two physical years is a huge obstacle to overcome. From a safety/liability standpoint, we are pretty set against a two year jump.
Thanks,
Mark
Sent from my iPhone
Incredibly gifted national-level player! It does run in the blood!! I never even mentioned he was already practicing 3-4 years up! That's my boy.
Cole did get to scrimmage with the older kids. I was so nervous! They towered over my baby on the field. The only thing slowing Cole down was the dynamics in which they older kids understood the rules (like off sides) and positions better. Too big of a jump to play, but he did so well! I guess we'll see how this plays out next Spring!

I'm BACK!
So we left Korea and lived with my parents for a month, bought a house, got Keith home, and then the unpacking began. Hands down, the most difficult move done to date. Moving is ranked pretty high up on the "stress list", but typically, the Air Force makes it easy if you use the services of moving companies. Not so much this time around. We had: a DITY move, a small shipment from Korea, a large shipment from Korea, and the largest shipment from storage in Idaho. It honestly was 4 moves in one.
Where did we get all this junk? Nothing was where I needed it, when I needed it, or even clean. In fact, I think I have 2 boxes hidden in the house still yet to unpack. Not all the pictures are hung, and I ran out of steam long long ago.
So, instead of finishing the job, I'll just sit and write. Cole started first grade at Fowler Elementary School. He got "THE" teacher to get, and I really like her. He's doing great. He is honestly the easiest child. He just does what's expected and usually without any problems. Cole picks things up quickly and easily, he makes friends and seems to enjoy life all the way around. He's a great big brother to Brad and sometimes he says he loves his mom. I think I'm going to keep him. He's the star player on The Green Dragons (if you ask me!), and expected to play up a year or two next season. More on that to follow!
Being the (non)expert parent I am, I might have struck a deal a little bigger than I wanted. I mean, I honestly didn't think we would get to this point. This is why I don't gamble. Ever. I hate to lose money, and then I just hate to lose. I told Cole that if he read a book a day till his birthday, I would buy him a dirt bike. I know. I've lost the last marble in my head. The dang kid is ruthless about reading. He's improved so much, but October is right around the corner and I don't see him "forgetting". Dang. How does he know about the adrenalin a little motorcycle can bring?? Well, let me introduce you to our new neighbors!
I call him "Fun Brian" and his wife Alyssa. They are great-great-great, and one of my favorite features about the new house. Brain is a fun guy. He's smart and funny, kind and generous. His charm sucks you in and the next thing you know your child is on his dirt bike. That's about how the story goes.
Speaking of charm, Brad.... oh my Brad. He is difficult, whiny, demanding, requires much work, love, and patience and I'm totally under his spell. He's so dang cute. Just when I think I couldn't love him more, he does something off the wall that wraps me tighter around that little finger. His future wife might not like me so much with all the conforming we do for him, but I can't help it. He's slowly adapting to a new town/life/routine. As expected. His dr. here wants him tested for all kinds of things, but I still don't think that will give us an instruction book to Brad. We're still waiting on all the referrals and still debating on carrying through with it. He does need to start speech. This only makes me sad when I think of not hearing "lauder, zee zee, or bisquito" He's started a pre-K program with a church and gymnastic classes. We're still testing the waters - I'm sure those will be posts all their own.
Well, it's the middle of the day and my husband just got home! I'm off to head to the store with him before I pick up the boys from school. Life in Wichita Falls is good. Very good.

HAHAHAHAHA
No Bathrooms available for PUBIC use! (instead of public... but you all knew that)
Now that's funny. I need Kaitlyn to tell me if that's called a double entendre or at least get me close to the spelling of it. See, I kinda paid attention in school.
Today I got a free car wash. And I completed my first sewing project since the second grade! It only took me 3 hours or so. I think I may have even cussed at the machine in front of my parents.
Brad fell and scraped his leg then was crying like his leg was severed off. I told him it's not even bleeding (because that's how comforting I am sometimes when I'm really tired and he was doing something I told him to stop doing anyway) and he told me it WAS bleeding, it was DRY bleeding. Dry bleeding, that kid is cute sometimes.
I'm off to rest for another day of driving to WF and back. I have to get ready to register my kids for school. Ask me how much research I've done? None. But, got a free car wash and did a 30 minute sewing project in 3 hours. See, in Korea we had no choices. Here I have 100's in a little old town and I still didn't make a decision. I do know that I will be making a note of the exact location of stated Best Western for my strongly worded letter to headquarters.

Free Show at Best Western
Amazingly, the next exit there was a Best Western. That's it! Not a house, another road, a gas station, a store... a random Best Western. Perfect. I pulled over and got the boys out. As I walked into the hotel I saw a sign "No Bathrooms available for pubic use" Great. The lady in the lobby quickly perked up. I politely asked her if my son could use the bathroom. She said NO. Making sure she knew it was for my 3 year old she told me sorry again, she couldn't help me. The next statement even shocked me a little bit, but I said it aloud "Come on boys, I guess you're just going to have to poop in the grass"
And that we did. Right outside the door on their grassy lawn, I let Cole pee on a rock and let Brad cop-a-squat. Free Show for All! I left the biodegradable hiney wipe in the grass and loaded them back in the van.
I get I'm crazy, no need to tell me, but what else was I suppose to do? Now the big delima.... do I never return there again or do I make it a point to pee in their grass every trip back? Do I write a letter to headquarters? Do I confess I actually let my child defecate in the yard area where the DOGS allowed in the hotel go poop? I'm sorry, but that's a crazy policy. Where's your common sense Best Western?
I might save this story till after my new neighbors know me good and well.... like you all do! You don't judge, right?
Disservice
Now, this thought has crossed my mind before, but I think I was a little in shock this morning. They are so spoiled! All the cool toys other kids were playing with, my boys had. They wanted things and I found myself telling them over and over "you already have that.." It was honestly embarrassing.
What have we done? Is this a good thing? I'm torn between wanting to show the boys the world and being blessed to offer then so much, and then in disbelief that all of that could be GOOD for them.
Then we went to Barnes and Noble to pick up a book and while I was checking out, they were acting like monkeys. Brad had his shoes off, they were wrestling on the floor under the bargain books table, they were loud, they were screaming and playing chase..... HORRIBLE! They just got new toys and couldn't be still for 3 minutes while I was checking out. Connection? I'm leaning towards an astounding YES. I'm a horrible parent.
I guess there will be some serious downsizing when we get our household goods from Idaho. We survived with less in Korea. I guess I'm still processing the differences between the culture over there vs the culture over here. How easily we've slipped right back into it. The buying, the getting, the collecting, the spending... It was an eye opening morning.

Life Lessons
The conversation has been focused on Brad's birthday party. He's very excited. Well, he got a little too excited and started crying for presents RIGHT NOW! Cole and I kept trying to reason with him (hahaha) and then Cole started this little speech....
Brad, birthday's aren't about the presents, it's about spending time with your friends. Just like Christmas isn't about Santa, it's about Jesus's birthday. Easter isn't about candy, but Jesus. Mother's day isn't about giving
WAIT, this is where I had to interrupt... ;-)
he said, it's about loving your mother. Sweet, but it's also a little about giving.
So I tell him that I'm so impressed with these life lessons he's learned. It takes some people a really long time to know all that. That's when he replied "I'm just guessing." Good guess, son.

MIA
You see, we were in Korea and then I blinked and now we're in Texas. Kinda a lot has happened.
*Grandpa and Bobbie came to visit and flew back home with us.
*Had to leave Daddy
*We said goodbye to great friends and Korea in general.
*We slowly adapted to the time change
*Slowly adapted to the culture shock
*I had to relearn how to drive on the left side of the car.
*I'm slowly reclaiming my dogs and cat, little traitors
*We've visited friends and family and still have more catching up to do
*I've already had a spa day, thank you so much!
*We bought a house
*I bought a BAM (big a%& mirror) that I have no idea what to do with
*The boys have two pet snakes, don't get me started
*I realized that I am highly allergic to Texas and have spent more money in allergy medicine in the past week than I've collectively spent in YEARS!
*Cole left his car seat (over protective much?) and moved up to a booster
*We've eaten at almost all our favorite places, but we've been saving the peanut place for Daddy's return.
There's so much blogging material I think writers block shouldn't be an issue for a good year or so. The boys are saying and doing the cutest things so I figured I better get caught up before I forget!
We went to a fund raiser and they had kids sunglasses on sale. If you know anything about my father, you should know that he is the King of Bulk. I have never, and I mean never have seen him buy one of anything. Naturally, Papa Sir stocked up. This was great news to Brad bc it seems he has a great interest in eyewear lately. He wore swim goggles for a week straight (at home, outside, on the plane ride home..) Now he's set on shades. Cole asked, "Brad, why do you like glasses so much. What are you, Papa Sir or something?"
Today after the morning cartoons finished... I might have let them watch more cartoons than the average bear. See, they have a year of catching up to do. I don't think they remember short shows. They've survived on movies only during their time in Korea. So after the cartoons ended the movie Homeward Bound started. I did not know this. I have a very strict policy to never watch sad animal movies. The boys obviously got invested in the sad animal movie. Brad comes to me crying "The cat died on the movie, can you turn it happy?"
Tomorrow I am driving to Wichita Falls for the third time in two weeks. I shall now refer to Wichita Falls as WF from here on out. Going to do some house prep for the movers. Not that I know when they'll be here. That would be silly to expect the Air Force to send our stuff right away. But I'll check on the house and hire a lawn guy. It's so hard to be me.

I heart China
We had such a fun visit with the Chamness girls! It was jammed pack and looking back I feel a little guilty for making my 74 year old Grandmother do as much as we did! She was a trooper, the first one up and ready to hit the ground running.
I started the weekend with a girls trip to Seoul. Instead of leaving from Osan, we caught a bus from Yongsong. This put me a little behind schedule picking them up, and wouldn't you know they were EARLY. Sorry for the wait! And then another wait for the bus ride home! It was a long packed bus ride.
The next day we spent around the base. It was such a hassle signing them on and off with the day passes, fingerprints, double id checks... something should have triggered my brain for our Dragon Hill plan, but it didn't. More on that later.
We showed them around the base and walked around downtown. They hit up Cole's favorite, Dr. Fish. I can't believe Nana liked it as much as she did! We went to the blanket shop, purse stores, and back home for naps. I made dinner and we hung out playing the greatest game in all the land - Just Dance on the wii. So help me, watching Cole dance gives me such joy. I want 10 recorded hours of it to watch over and over and over again. My heart can't handle the shakes and shimmy. It's the single more adorable thing I've ever seen. Please God don't let him grow up!
Tuesday we ventured off to Kojeon Antiques. I love this place and I think they do it. I have to admit that her prices have gone up since we started leaving her our children's savings funds, but she's a nice as nice can be. After creating wooden bowl fanatics like myself, we treated them to a traditional Korean meal. They loved it. Blah! I can't believe how much kimchie Kimi ate, and Nana tried everything! That was officially my 4th Korean meal in a year and my tastes haven't changed. I won't miss the food. We took them to our favorite park for some "4 wheelering". Cole showed his skills while Brad made sure we each got a turn riding with him. Not that I don't trust him, but his ride with Nana almost gave me a heart attack! - on Nana's behalf!
Wednesday was another big day planned. We were going to spend the day in Seoul. First we had to sign them out of Osan to pick up their id cards and get gas, which was a huge headache. To top the day off it was raining. The plan was simple.... spend the day in Seoul, spend the night at the Dragon Hill Lodge and take the free shuttle to the airport the next morning for China. Problem. We couldn't get them signed onto base for a day pass, then signed off the next morning to get back on for the free shuttle. It was a logistical brain problem. We ended up booking a van/taxi to take us. In the end we probably should have just driven there ourselves and paid for parking, but the traffic on Easter Sunday would have not made us very nice Christians on such a Holy day. We spend the rainy day at the Korean War Memorial and Museum where the boys learned all about the Turtle Boat. Just ask them.
We went back to the Hotel and rested. A short walk to Popeye's for dinner and off to bed for most of the crew. Wouldn't you know it cleared up so Keith, Kimi, and I took off to the Seoul Tower for a night view. It was really pretty. I thought it would be like an outside lookout, but nope. All enclosed and somewhat of a bummer. Lots of people in a small enclosed area made the windows foggy - and the air stinky if you know what I mean.
The next morning was an early wake up call - CHINA BOUND! We got to up and checked out, back to gate 17 to sign them off base and pick up their id cards and off to Incheon Airport. Can I just say again it's the nicest airport in the world!
China is a post all it's own. We had a great time. The history, the food, the shopping, the food!! Heaven!
We came home Easter Sunday. Since our van was still at the Dragon Hill we thought it would be best to stick everyone on the city bus home and Keith and I would go pick up the car and drive it home in the traffic. We quickly put them on the first city bus and Keith and I headed to the Yongsong bus. We sat there for 30 minutes for them to tell us there wasn't room for us. Keith and I ran back to get on a city bus. We all made it home at the same time, go figure, and had a nice dinner together and a long night's sleep.
The next day I had to send Cole back to school. I don't he liked me much, but he already misses a week and the following one was Spring Break. We spent the day in downtown Songtan. The girls finished up some shopping and fake purse collecting. We also ran through Home Plus for some local entertainment. I think the real entertainment was me trying to get us OUT of the building.
Tuesday was Kimi's 31st Birthday! To celebrate we planned to go to Everland but it was raining again. Lucky girl because the skies cleared by lunch time and we were at the park by 2. It was busier than our typical empty. We had to wait like 15 minutes per ride. Not cool, but we managed to survive. We came home to pizza, cake, and ice cream.
Wed was their last day in Korea! Gege went out in style at Happy Quilt. We took some stuff (and her 70 yards of fabric) downtown to box up to be shipped back. We did all sit around and watch Kim pack her bags. I'm still amazed it all fit.
Thursday morning we shipped them off to the local bus station and pointed them in the direction of the airport. Sorry but that's how it works over here ;-) We had a fun time and I hope they liked Korea. It's been a fun place for the time being, but I'm anxious to get home too.
Stepping Backwards
We saw a behavioral specialist a few months ago. Ms Betty left us in December and really helped us out learning new ways to parent Brad and to help him when he gets incredibly frustrated. We've had our ups and downs, but nothing like it use to be.... until last Friday.
It was by far his worst day ever. If it was caught on video you would still never believe it. We would have been the season finale 3 hour episode of Nanny 911. For the life of me, if I knew his triggers I would do everything in the world to prevent it from happening again. Something set him off and his brain went into lock down mode. He threw a 40 minute temper tantrum outside by the front gate on base. He had an audience and looking back if we were in America the cops would have been there in a heartbeat. I couldn't hold him, put him in the car, comfort him. He hit the walls, kicked the bike racks, punched the signs, laid in the parking lot, paced, and threw rocks all while screaming death screams of "I want to go home". He thought he left his glow in the dark dinosaur at home when in fact it was in the car. But you couldn't tell him that because he was shut off. He wouldn't look, listen, or understand. It's more than a fit or an act of terrible twos even though we're approaching four. When you physically see it you can tell it's not the same. My mom said I should have taken him right to the ER. Maybe we should have, but we couldn't control him enough to get him the 1/2 mile down the road.
After 40 minutes, I finally was able to get him back in the car. But the rest of the day was horrible. We tried to do fun family things, but Brad's fits continued over one thing and another. Maybe we should have gone home, but where do we draw the line? Does the 3 year old dictate what we do together as a family when the weather is nice and Daddy has the day off? It was a hard mommy day, and I can only imagine how hard it was for Brad. So frustrated and mad at everything.
So for my own personal record, I'm jotting down what I noticed:
He kinda had a crappy breakfast (poptarts - sorry, I can count on one hand how many boxes I've bought for them). I know he's had strong reactions to large doses of sugar in the past, but I don't think poptarts alone would set him this far over the edge. His eczema wasn't flared up. He got an ok amount of sleep, but he's always the last to bed, first to rise. He was able to pick out his clothes and "toys" for his backpack. Nothing was bothering him (socks, shoes, jeans)
We're just at a loss. As a parent you just want to fix it. I just want to explain it to him, but during these fits NOTHING sinks in. You can't tell him/show him/explain to him anything. It's like talking to a wall. We just wait it out trying to keep him from hurting himself. I don't understand it. The best explanation we were given is it's a mixture of sensory and stress. At his age he can not understand nor express stress, but kids can sure feel it. And given what's been going on, who wouldn't be stressed? The kid has moved 3 times in 4 years, left all his "stuff"/pets/people he loves, lives in a foreign country without a lot of time with peers in his age group, visitors come and go, and we're telling him we're moving again. So his cry might be over a glow-in-the-dark dinosaur, but he's releasing EVERYTHING. (isn't Ms Betty so smart. I miss her)
So... what's a kid wired like this to do when you're a military brat? I haven't figured it out yet. The two margaritas at dinner helped me... next time I might share with Brad.

We're Alive
I know I should write it all down before it becomes a memory, but I need a full day to disclose the whirlwind trip. I will state it's in Keith's best interest we went towards the end of our tour. I'm already trying to make my way back to China before we head to Texas. Loved it! Oh... If Erin or Ashley ever have to come to Korea you better bet that I am coming to visit just to steal them away to China.
I am without computer at this point. I need a new power cord. Until that happens I will have to wait to type out our last few weeks. Update on the boys: Cole is getting smarter by the minute. He cracked open a hard boiled egg today and informed us that it was cooked more like a four minute egg and he likes the standard eight minute egg better. Brad told me today "do you know that I am dangerous?". Yes you are son. 25 days and counting

Mickey Lee
The boys and I are driving out of our apartments and we see a large furry dog. It just so happens to be a Chow. Cole asks what kind of dog it was and I tell him. I also go on to tell him that they are known for being mean and agressivie dogs. He says "Do they bite". I tell him "yes, they can bite"
Cole says "Is Mickey a chow?"
WHAT?!?!
Guppy
I even remembered to bring some pool toys. I forget all the fun things like that so I'm pretty proud of myself for thinking ahead and actually doing it! It's a rare deed these days. Back to the kids - Inside the bag is a pair of goggles. Now, Brad doesn't like to get his hair or face wet while swimming. You might ask how that's possible, but he has it down to a science. It's a Chamness trait. He's related to a long line of above-head swimmers. I could out them all right now, but I won't ;-)
Today Brad decides he's going to put the goggles on and go underwater. I help him get the mask on and he jumps right into the pool. I'm sitting there stunned he went under the water! Yea Brad!!! He comes up coughing. It seems he forgot to close his mouth. It happens. He rips the mask off and it's several minutes before he tries again. He walks over and hands me the mask. I help him put it on and while he's standing there I tell him he has to fill his cheeks with air and hold his breath. He jumps in again, comes up coughing ripping his mask off. When he's built up more confidence he brings the mask back over. As I am putting it on I notice he's holding his breath with big puffy cheeks. "YES, Brad - hold your breath just like that." He jumps in, comes up coughing. I can't figure it out.
Yet again, I assist him with the mask and he's holding his breath while standing there. Then it dawns on me, "Brad, honey, you have to hold your breath when you go under the water, not when you're standing here getting your mask on" He replies "OOOOOOOOHH" Sweet Brad. He jumps in and holds his breath. Success!
We picked Cole up from school and Brad was so excited to tell Cole what he did. He says "Co-by I went underwa-ther with the mask" Cole, dead serious, looks at me and says "Did he close his mouth?"

1.5 down, 1.5 to go!
I told him:
1. He needed to be able to tie his shoes
2. He had to be able to wipe his hiney - we're still working on it.
3. He had to be able to read
Solid yet important goals. It just so happened that the velcro wore out of his tennis shoes and we had to go to the BX to find a replacement. Warning, small rant ahead. I really do not like the selection at the BX. They have the $10 generic shoes or the $40 name brand. Nothing in between. I've purchased the $10 shoes before and they fell apart in two weeks. So you're pushed into buying the $40 CHILDREN'S SHOES. I can't get over it. I can't remember the last time I bought myself a pair of $40 shoes.
Of course Cole falls in love with the $40 pair because it came with a key chain. Genius marketing ploy. I was slightly irritated that I was about to spend that much money, so I told him that if I bought this pair he had to learn to tie them on his own. The next morning it was time to get ready for school and guess who takes his new shoes out of the box and immediately ties them on his own?! Cole. Little stinker, holding out on me all these months. He learned to tie his shoes and never said a word. He now has new shoes and he's tying them like a pro. $40 well spent.
We also bought some new books and Cole's been reading them on his own each night!! We're still working, but I think he'll be more than ready for first grade!!
Ahh... the toughest parenting trick yet. The wiping of the hiney. Let's just say that the bidet hasn't been used in a while. I'm still having to do a "final inspection", but he's at least doing something on his own. Mucho progress.

RockStar
C: I don't want my haircut. I want to grow it long like a girl
M: What? Why?
C: I want to be a Rock Star.
M: You can grow it long when you learn to play an instrument.
C: I already know how.
M: What can you play?
C: I can play the violin, but without using the chin thing.
I'm confused. Either that's not playing at all or else he's thinking of the mandolin, which I'm fairly certain he's never played before. End result: Hair chopped.

1st Crush
This time it's a little different. There is a set of triplets in his class. Hands down, the girls are all beautiful. I would be pulling my hair out if I were their parents in 10 more years!! They are the sweetest of the sweetest and easily make you immediately want triplets. Here's the tricky part. He and his best friend Jake both like the same girl. If you even say her name around him, Cole's face gets red and you can't wipe the smile off. They fight to sit next to her at lunch, stand next to her in line, and play with her during the same quarter at the soccer games. Jake might be scoring more points with sweet little "K". He sits next to her in class. Cole told me the other day that I should talk to Dr. Stapleford about moving him to the red table so he can see the board better. Guess who sits up front at the red table? Little stinker. I'm onto him!
I would like to stir up the drama and tell him to open his eyes. Her sister "A" obviously likes him. She plays legos and war with him. And she's a really good goalie on their team. He did tell me that he likes "K" the best because she's the best jump-roper. Every man has his standards. However, all this is just too much too fast. Let's wait a few years.... or in this case 7 more weeks. We'll be back in Texas by then ;-)
Other funny's from Cole:
He told me he wanted to start "kwi con co" and boxing when we get to the States. When I asked him why he wanted to get punched in the face he said "no I want to punch someone in the face". Interesting.

Fired
I spent the better part of the morning listening to supermom's talking about how they all picked out their green clothes and had Lucky Charms for breakfast. Sorry boys. The topic at MOPS was "playing with your kids" and how much time you physically play with your children instead of cleaning, or cooking... (or searching the MLS listings for new houses in Wichita Falls). Reminders of how quickly time passes and the chores will always be there. I must admit there was another scoop on mommy guilt.
As if that wasn't enough - something happened today that threw me into a panic. The fear of my baby growing up. It started out innocent enough, Cole went to Robbie's house to play after school. After an hour his mom calls me and asks if Cole can stay for dinner and then go to AWANA's with them. I can hear him begging in the background. She would return him home close to 8pm. I didn't want to say yes, but had to. My baby would be gone all day long and he wanted it that way. I would get to see him for 20 minutes before bed. That wasn't enough time! How did that happen? I wanted to call back and say I changed my mind, but knew Cole would be so upset. I guess God was easing me into this transition because it started snowing and AWANA's was canceled. Whew. Cole came home earlier than expected. I was able to ask him a million questions he refused to answer and put him to bed. Brad missed him more than I did.
I don't know how Keith does it. He leaves for days/weeks/months at a time without seeing his boys. I guess because of the military lifestyle I've been the only option for so long. Just me and the boys. It's been nice and I swear I wouldn't change a thing. Other then forgetting to dress them in green and spending a little less time on this crazy internet.
Today was my warning. I'm about to be fired from my job. He's needing me less and less. Overall it is my goal right? To raise them so I'm out of work - so he doesn't need me to clean up after him, cook, or wash his clothes. I'm suppose to make sure he can work and think for himself. I've got to teach him life lessons hoping he applies them to his everyday living. Cole is well on his way. Brad might learn everything but I'm fairly certain he'll keep me employed longer. Just cause he likes it.

Finished and Lost
I can not get over this story and not believe these characters are fictional. They were honestly so real to me, the interpretation of the lifestyle was astounding. Why wasn't this required reading in high school? Not that I would have read it back then, but oh... I think the year we were suppose to read it I had Ms. Sinclair for English 10th or 11th grade. It was her first year of teaching and she cried every class. She quit after her first year. Marcus High School ate her alive. If you could imagine a class of complete chaos - that was hers. We basically watch movies all year round. That's all I remember... and her crying everyday. Wait, was that even her name? Back to the report she probably tried to have us do:
The characters are so deeply developed. Rhett. Dear Rhett, loving Scarlett all those years. Helping her when she didn't even know it, honoring her for her mind, and then letting her self destruct. Seriously, any man who buys that big of a ring just to make a point is a keeper in my book ;-) A father so against the grain during that era. Loving and doting, even to Wade. Scarlett, what were you thinking? Ashley? Please, you've wasted a life. This lady is a fighter, determined, and tough. A 17 inch waist after all those kids. Doubtful. Can you get over the way of life when it came to pregnancy and how they stayed hidden and in bed after delivery? That's CRAZY to me. Melanie, the truest of friends. A lady with grace and tact. I so wish Scarlett was a better girlfriend to her, and told her as much at the end... Communication, the most important aspect in a relationship. I wish she would have told Rhett sooner.
I'm equally impressed with the language. How Mammy and their other slaves would "speak", you could read it and "hear" the words off the pages. The dialects when a "white trash" would talk and the elders like Miss Pitty. Without even knowing it, I'm hearing them all page after page. Hundreds of characters in and out of the book, and you know them all.
I could go on! Please read this book. Erin, thank you for the New Year's Resolution. Please Tell Pat the Bunny to hide her ornament collection before I bribe her with salt and pepper shakers ;-)
As soon as I can find a free 233 minutes to enjoy the movie, my mission will be complete.

Unpredictable
I figured since we'll be around lots of friends and family on his birthday, I should throw him his first ever birthday party!! It appears we're in the middle of a move on all of his birthdays. Well, for his second we went to the River with the Thomas family and had ice cream cone cupcakes. It was fun for the rest of us! This year he's excited, but I'm not sure he knows what for... that's my Brad.
I asked him where he wanted to have a birthday party and his first response was "school". I will remind him of that when I can't get him out of bed for school in 4 years. I'm leaning towards having one at Going Bonkers in Lewisville. We've been sheltered. I'm already nervous it will be crowded. Is it wrong for wanting the party to be a 9:00am as soon as they open?
My next question was what kind of party does he want. His response "sharks". Only Brad. I better get to planning a shark birthday party!! I can't wait - grey. blue, teeth, and a cake from Candy Haven!! Wait, what if Candy Haven isn't cool anymore?
Locker Room Living
Cole - Last night at dinner he decided he would only swallow his food whole instead of chewing. Want to know why? That way his food would come out whole and he wouldn't have to wipe. He's tired of all that poop getting smeared all around. Can someone please pass the carrots?
Brad - Is on a mad hunt for budding "man hair". I can't keep pants on the kid. Right now they are drawing pictures. He's doing self portraits of himself complete with a "johnson" Yes, my children know all the slang for their genitalia.
They only think girls have "girl penises". I've told them several times the proper terms and still "girl penis" sticks around. So help me. Is this normal? Does anyone else talk about other events at dinner? Do man hair checks start at the age of 3? I feel a need to hide all the rulers in the house.

Mission Impossible
I did the impossible and I'm sharing my advice to his family. I found Keith a gift he A) likes B) didn't want to return C) surprised him and D) uses. I know. We bought him the wireless magic MAC mouse. Anything MAC related excites him and is on his wish list. There. That's all I know about my husband. Happy Birthday Keith. We are forever grateful for each of the years you've been alive!!
Headache
Combined with a little game I just discovered: Words with Friends. It's all-scrabble all the time with people who want to play me (not like when I force Keith) and people who can't cheat (like Keith). I'm fairly impressed with my word knowledge. Considering my spelling record combined with the fact that my writing skills read exactly like I speak, you would think I only knew 3-5 letter words. That might be my ploy, like Paris Hilton acting dumb.
To top it off, I'm still trying to finish Gone With The Wind. O my lands has it gotten exciting! I can't say anymore without spoiling it, but alas! You should see this poor book. The pages are warped, the binding has broken, and it's been toted all over Asia. There's no way it could hold up to a re-read. I'm just hoping the pages stay in place before I finish. I already bought the movie from My Korean Blockbuster. There's no way to cram the whole story in a film, so I'm anxious to see what's been cut. I can't imagine editing one single event out of it!

I Don't Get It
Cole's Friend: Knock Knock
Cole: Who's there?
Cole's Friend: D'Vonte
Cole: D'vonte who?
Cole's Friend: D'Vonte Carter.
That just happens to be his name. Either way, it got tons of giggles at the lunch table. Then Cole told his joke.
Cole: Knock Knock
D'Vonte: Who's there?
Cole: Gun Show
D'Vonte: Gun Show who?
Cole: Gun Show Exit.
AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA! Again, it was hysterical to the boys at the table. I'm already afraid of the possible suspension for saying the word "gun" in a school when we return to the States. Then again, it's Texas. Is it possible to go throughout the day without saying that word?

The Mind is Racing!
How many more trips to Everland can we get? What about more antiques from Kojeon? I have to decide when to pull Cole out of school and the paperwork that goes with that. We have cars to sell, flights to arrange, condiments to use up ;-)
I started looking at houses in Wichita Falls. Idaho might have spoiled me because we had such a nice rental with the 3 car garage. It's like moving from a king size bed back to a full. Who does that? Everything is so different here. If it has a backyard, disposal, and washer and dryer I promise I'll be happy. Happy right after I incorporate the kick-start kitchen sink we have here in Korea.
I'm researching preschools. My precious Brad, I'm going to find the best for you buddy. I'll look high and low for just the perfect place to get you started on the right track. I've been praying for the teacher with the gentleness and willingness to get to know you and understand you. We will all work together so you can grow and develop with your creativity intact. I'm excited for this new chapter for you!! And maybe we'll get a pet frog.
OH - and we also found out that one of Cole's best buddies here in Korea with us will also be PCSing to Sheppard. He'll have a friend! They are in the same class now and could end up in school again together! He can't wait to get his bike back and to catch bugs in the backyard. I hope it helps when we have to say goodbye (or see you later) to Jake.
I'm beyond ready to find a church that fits us. I'm needing the guidance and ready to dive back into the word, being taught!
Oh, there's so much to do here and there! (because it's Dr. Seuss week, I really want to finish that sentence with a rhyme)
And let me just say:
I made a post on facebook about us moving back to Texas and I am stunned. I am overwhelmed with the outpouring of excitement! I am a blessed blessed girl to have supportive friends and family who take me back again and again. I don't feel like a good friend moving and leaving so often. I don't get to call or visit like I want to. I'm missing their kids growing up and not knowing the small things going on with them. And they still miss me. Crazy to wrap my head and heart around. I love you all. Knowing you care is As Good As It Gets. And for my military family (because that's exactly what friends become), I miss you all as well and can't wait for the times we reconnect in person or via internet.
I'll end with a funny story. We went to have lunch with Cole at school today. While we were there a little girl asked Keith if Cole could have a sleepover at her house this weekend. She even said she had GI Joe boy-movies he could watch. Cute? Thank goodness Cole has no interest in that.... yet!

Sucky
Fridays are "popcorn fridays" at Cole's elementary school. I volunteer to help pop a bag of popcorn for every kid and teacher there. It's something the PTO does for fun and moral. Anyway, last Friday the ladies were talking about how bad theft has gotten around here. They were sharing stories of what's going on at the High School and people who have been caught trying to break into the houses on base... SHOCKING. I'm telling you, you can learn a lot at Popcorn Friday. I share this with Keith and he's in disbelief that Korea could be a place of locking doors and keeping your eye out. We go on with our weekend.
Sunday rolls around and Keith travels to Seouen to play soccer. He takes his camera bag with EVERYTHING in it: the camera and all his lenses, filters, and collection of garb that I have no idea of their names or purpose. He takes pictures and before the game starts he puts the bag in his trunk. Obviously someone was watching because when he got home, the camera bag was gone. They left the iphone, GPS, and his work backpack, but took the camera bag. He was/is devastated.
Oh, my heart dropped for him. Those near and dear to Keith quickly realize how well he takes care of his things - starting with family all the way down to his shoes. He's a believer in getting the best and taking care of it to last forever. Examples: me and Merlin, 'nough said ;-) Trust me. Try driving his car 3,001 miles between oil changes. It WILL become a top priority in life - and it better be done yourself to ensure it's changed properly. I know the kind of care he put into researching and picking out the best lenses. I witnessed the guy baby them and clean them with all different kinds of special cloths and brushes. I saw him excited over learning a new interest and quickly become a technical expert on all things Nikon. To know somebody took it away so quickly is hurtful. We both realize it's stuff, but it doesn't stop the immediate pain. I'm sorry honey. I know I've teased you about what's gone into your hobby, but if I could replace it all for you today I would.
Our silver lining is that all of the pieces were insured so we're just waiting till Monday morning in the States to call USAA. Ugh. Sucky. USAA has always treated us well so I'm sure I'll have a post singing their praises in the next few weeks. They have a tough job ahead of them because they might not realize how picky Keith can be when it comes to his electronics. Then again, they deal with military members. I'm pretty sure he's not the first "type A" they've worked with.
Totally unrelated, we have a handful of mink blankets that are so soft and fuzzy. I've washed a couple of them and they seem to have lost some their softness. We're down to a few of "original softness" blankets and Keith makes the comment "Boys, I hope you don't pee on these and make us wash them anytime soon" Wouldn't you know that they had an accident THAT very night? Poor hubby, he's not having a very good weekend.

Bag Lady
This lady has to be the most wealthy woman in Songtan. I bought a purse in December and the handle was cracking so I took it back today. She agreed to fix it (I can't wait to see how in the world a "fix" job will look). I left my purse there for a couple weeks, but I HAD to have a replacement for the time being, right?
I came home with another one. It's addicting! I have to be stopped. We've been here for 7 months and I have accumulated 5 purses. 2 Louis Vuitton, a Prada, Puma bag, and Jimmy Choo. Part of me feels like stepping it up for a nice average of 1 a month. These high quality goods should last me at least a year in the States. Yes, I get the irony that I took one back today for falling apart in less than 2 months.
We also went to watch Keith play soccer. Great weather, the boys were having fun outside, and I got to watch my boyfriend play just like the old days. It was As Good As It Gets.

Bullseye
As it turns out, this is the Korean Spring/Summer break. School starts up again for them March 1st. Lines for the teacups were an hour. No thank you. We've become very accustomed to being the only people in the park, waiting was not on our to-do list. We basically just enjoyed walking around and seeing the sights. The only thing Cole wanted to do was play the dart game. You know the game you have to pay extra money to play like at the fair? For $2 you get 5 darts to try to pop all the balloons. What a deal!
I felt a little guilty. I wasn't going to stand in any lines and basically took them on a 3 miles hike while they got to listen to other kids laughing and screaming on all the rides. I forked over the money and little man stepped right up.
We gave him the darts and wouldn't you know - he hit FOUR in a row! Cole made it look so easy. He won a little stuffed doggie bone that he wants to give to Mickey. Sweet kid. Girlfriends are going to love him. They'll get to take home all the stuffed animals and it will only cost me $2.
Bummer
My new fake TAG watch barely got wet and the whole face fogged up.
It made me more upset I lost my BVLGARI watch in Thailand that necessitated the TAG.
Today was laundry day. In the rain.
Brad had a bad day so screaming and whining are ringing in ours ears.
And we still don't have our assignment.
BUT, it's nothing a little Haagen Dazs and Grey's Anatomy can't fix. Goodnight.

Blue Skies Lookin At Me
You heard me, picking Cole up from school because he's cleared to go back! Their last Dr. appointment went well. Officially they had a staph infection a strand that started with a B and was 115 letters long. I honestly tried to remember it, but like the old "telephone" game I played by myself in my head it turned into bactroban. Which is also the name of the ointment they are on. Damn ;-)
They both had Cellulitis. Fun nasty stuff. I could do without it and thank Heavens it happened at the end of the trip. Things can go South quickly without antibiotics. The good news is that they did get treatment quickly and it was contained to their skin. I'm still on the lookout for other symptoms, but they should start scabbing over later this week. They could have picked it up anywhere so it's not just a Thailand thing. That means I still am in love with those thousands of little islands with the softest powder beaches. I can start telling you all the fun times and cool things we got to do. I can vividly recall jumping from rocking boat to rocking boat, the only way to access the resorts we stayed at! Ahh, Thailand. Thank you for the memories and the fake watch and sunglasses. Kob Koon Kaa!

Survivor Update
Did you watch Survivor: Heros vs Villains? I'm hooked. Please let Boston Rob Align with Russell. Talk about a power team. I'm sure Russell has something different up his sleeve. I'm sadly disappointed in James's behavior, and what's up with Jeff Probst calling me out for naming my son Colby! Coach and Jerri - vomica.
Now, to prove my attention isn't SEVERELY misaligned, here's a picture of Cole's knee today. I just wish I knew how to rotate the picture before I save it... so just turn your head and compare. Since we're comparing boo boo's, I have a hangnail that hurts and I risk my open wound to treat my children's contagious funkiness. There, I feel better.

Overloaded
We landed in Seoul, boarded a bus, and rushed home. Thew our bags down and ran immediately to the emergency room. Cole's blisters were growing in front of our eyes literally every hour they were bigger and bigger. The Dr. marked the boarders with a sharpie and told us to come back in 24 hours if they started to grow. We were back in 4 hours and this time Brad had a lesion too.
Here's what Cole's knee looked like after the first Dr. marked them:
At this point they have each had 5 doses of antibiotics. The blisters have stopped growing in size, but more spots/lesion sites have popped up on both boys. Sore count: Cole has 3 on his left knee, 3 on his right leg, and one on his ear. Brad has two on his legs and one on his ear. They don't look nearly as bad as the originals on Cole's knee, but nevertheless, WHY are they still getting them? We are in a wait and see hold to give the medicines a chance. Cole's ear still looks pretty nasty. There was a moment where I was ready to jump on a plane to the States (ok, honestly I was thinking Hawaii ONLY because it was closer!) The boys were acting fine, you would never know their skin was blistering and falling off!
Keith is feeling better. I blame his stomach issues on his diet. My husband ordered pad thai EVERY meal for 8 days straight. As Brad would say "his tummy hated him". Let that lesson be learned, the digestive system can only safely handle 7 consecutive days of pad thai. From the pictures it appears I drank my calories for 9 days straight and I feel great.
Thank you for the prayers. I'm holding my review of Thailand off till the boys are better and healed. Depending on how long we deal with funky skin blisters I might waiver in my love for the stunning, breathtaking, God made tropical islands and beaches.

Departing Gift
Yep, Thailand sent us off with some crazy staph infection. Immediately after landing we went straight to the Emergency Room. Three trips to the ER in 16 hours and I **think** we are on the road to recovery. Details and memories to follow.
ps - if you spend 8 hours in the Bangkok Airport between the hours of 7pm and 3am can you officially say you've had "one night in Bangkok"?

Half a World Away
Now I must get back to nursing my husband. It seems he's got the Traveler's Bug. I got online to look up his symptoms and here I am on the blog. I'm trying to distract my over the top head that it's not dysentery or cholera. He'll be fine in a few days, I'm sure.
We'll be back in Korea soon and I hope he doesn't visit every toilet between here and there. Poor guy.
Signing off to order some room service. I'm too chicken to go out to eat alone with the boys. I value them and my organs.

My Heart Holder
Since we’ll be lounging on the beaches of Thailand on Valentine’s day, I thought I would post this early. Boys, let me tell you a little story of how I met your father. Keep in mind, this was WAY back in the 90’s and we were in High School. It’s filled with all the cheesiness that for some reason I can remember every detail of….. can’t find my keys, but you better believe I know the ridiculousness that makes up the non essensial details of our love story.
I was really close friends with Amy and Emily Chiles. Amy was a year older than me and Emily was a year younger than me. It turns out Emily started going to a new church group – and I mean it was new and tiny – Denton Bible. (look it up, it’s now a mega-church) Anyway, One day Emily says “Jennifer, you have got to meet this guy that goes to Denton Bible. His name is Keith McDaniel and he is C U T E ! Being slightly boy crazy I was hooked. Months later it was a Friday or Saturday night and I was going out with Amy. We made a pit stop by her house to get re-ready and as I walked past Emily’s room, I notice she had friends over. As it turns out, she invited Dan Shipman and Keith to come hang out with her and Meredith Shuck. Boys, you should keep these names in mind because almost everyone involved still lives in the Flower Mound area. If we ever live there in the future you could be friends with THEIR children. And I will have more input than you’ll ever want when it comes to whom you date ;-)
I quickly walk past her room and get an eye glimpse of your dad. She was right, he was CUTE, BUT he was also starting to date Meredith. This might have been over the summer because when school started back up guess who started going to Marcus???? Keith. His Dad (Grandpa Slothbear) moved and he was able to switch schools. I would see him around and we had lunch together. We never sat near each other – he with his friends and me with mine, but I would always delay getting up and throwing my trash away when the bell rang so I could walk near him. He also did the same to be near me. I noticed. Everyone together…. AAAAHHHHHHHHHH!
Fast forward almost the entire school year! May 21, 1993 and I’m in 4th period Study Hall with Michael Dougan. We’re sitting around chatting and the question comes up “if you could go out with anyone in the entire school, who would you go out with?” My answer was Keith McDaniel. To my surprise Michael says “HOLD ON!” He gets up and leaves the room. Turns out he went to the class next door and finds your dad. Michael comes back and says, Keith will pick you up from work when you get off tonight and you’re going on a date. Umm, what just happened? I kinda didn’t care because I was very excited.
I worked at the Vista Ridge Mall in a candy store (Tropik Sun Fruit & Nut) and frantically had Melissa bring me up her best outfit to borrow. I think it was cream Bongo pants from The Wet Seal and a cream flowery silk tank top with brown flats and brown belt. Ask your father if he remembers what I was wearing… he won’t. That's ok, it might also have to do with the fact that I had a clothes journal. I wrote down what I wore every single day so I wouldn't repeat an outfit more than once every 2 weeks. Can you imagine the horror!? (ps - thank you for being boys) So she brings the clothes up to me and I close up the store possibly a little early to make sure I’m ready at 9:00pm. Guess who walks down the stairs… Keith AND Matt Garrison. Let me pause right there and remind myself that the writing was on the wall. This guy brought his BFF on our first date. I don’t even know if you can classify it as a date (again… writing on the wall) because we went back to his house where a party was already in full swing. See, Grandpa Greg worked and your dad’s friends always went over there to hang out. Yes, our date consisted of not spending ANY money. Man, so many bells are going off now that I’m recalling all these details.
We were standing in the back of Grant Kelly’s truck when your Daddy gave me our first kiss. From that moment on, it wasn’t “maybe we’ll see each other again”, it was as natural as “what are we doing tomorrow… for as long as we both shall live?” There was not any awkwardness or guessing, we knew that we liked to be together and were almost inseparable for the rest of the week (and years to follow). On May 26, 1993 your Dad asked me to “go” with him. Thirteen years later on that exact date your brother was born. BUT FIRST you have to have a wedding. I’ve got 8 ½ years of stories between first date and that!!
There’s so much more because young love in High School comes with DRAMA. But true love conquers all! Happy Valentine’s Day Keith. I love you so so much. Thank you for almost 17 years of memories. We’ve officially been together longer than we ever were apart!
